pooranpoli

When family is over, we have a feast! Pooranpoli, also called gali rotli, are roti stuffed with sweet daal filling. They are made for a feast and eaten as a sweet bread with savory dishes.

This is a childhood favorite for my brother and me, and since the family is all together for a long holiday weekend, we had to have at least one big, home-made feast. Below is a photo series of the making of pooranpoli. I’m leaving you drooling with photos only for now, the recipe will have to come another day …

This goes to my family … until then, enjoy your family food traditions on this or your next holiday!

Thanks you guys, it was fun seeing family after so long, and I ate too many of these! I am either being cruel or making you miss your families :( Next time, I will measure things for you to put up the recipe :)

Hey there Auntie (hehehe),I’ve never heard it called pooranpoli but this stuff reminds me of home. Sweet, incredibly unhealthy and totally awesome. hehehe. I used it eat it with kadhi.

Kaykat & Bee – Thank you :) I had to get them with all that ghee…it is probably one of the few foods I will accept with that much ghee ;) Nephew Shyam ;) I eat with kadhi, too! Pooranpoli is the real name, when we are little all we are told is gali rotli and it sounded so cute! Not a traditional food you want to eat everyday because it is so heavy to digest…so once a year maybe!
