The Portland Farmers Market at Shemanski Park is one of my favorite city markets in the Pacific Northwest. If I am in Portland on a market day, it’s at the top of my list.
The setting is lush, in the middle of a downtown Portland park. This October, the leaves were turning yellow in the trees over the flower vendors, who were still selling the most beautiful looking dahlia bouquets of the season. They still had strawberries, the best looking peppers I saw all summer, and quite a variety of dried beans. Unfortunately, I didn’t buy produce because we were traveling that day.
But that can’t stop you from going, because there are pictures to be made and you never know what you might find at a Northwest market. One time I found fresh rye flour, which made the best homemade Rye Bread! I was hoping to find that again since I bake a lot more bread now, but no such luck. I also like the fact that they don’t allow pets at the Portland Farmers Market, Seattle could do the same as our markets get more congested.
